Looking back, this project took about a month, with my father handling the structure and me spending a few extra weeks on the finishing details. The total cost for materials was about $5,000, and the labor was valued at $30k—bringing the project to around $35k in total.

Honestly, a contractor in my area quoted $45k–$50k for something like this, so my boss got a deal. But for me, it was never just about the money. It was about the craftsmanship, the time I got to spend building with my father, and creating something special for my boss’s grandkids.
